. The methods available for measurement of nitrogen fixation by field grown Phaseolus vulgaris are reviewed. Phaseolus is generally considered to have little ability to fix nitrogen. This is discussed in the light of research on host genotypes and Rhizobium strains, and the influences of environment on these in isolation and in symbiosis.
