Summary The numbers of Haliaëtus ‐vocifer on the eastern shores of Lake Albert were counted during September and October 1962. It is estimated that 167 eagles occupied 209 kilometres of shoreline. The local distribution of the eagle is governed by three main factors: the availability of perches, the shallowness of the water, and the proximity of a native fishing village. The amount of fish taken by these eagles is estimated to be under 0·4% of the weight taken by the native fisheries operating from the eastern shores of the lake.
