Summary Good communication is the key to damage limitation. A complaint by a patient should be treated as a medical emergency as early effective communication will almost always neutralise patient anger. Legible and appropriate clinical notes are also important. Patients with depression and dysmorphophobia are potentially litigious, underlying the importance of patient selection.
