Recent years have seen the development of alternatives to human insulin for the treatment of diabetes. Both rapid‐acting and long‐acting analogues are available. Alternative routes of insulin administration are emerging. The present review briefly summarizes the present knowledge on insulin analogues and alternative administration routes.
