Summary Many species within the genus Burkholderia possess significant biotechnological potential in bioremediation and biological control. Here we provide a description of the Burkholderia strains being investigated for their ability to degrade major xenobiotic pollutants and update information on their taxonomy, metabolic capacity and genomes.
