SUMMARY An attempt was made to assess the value of carisoprodol, a close chemical relation of meprobamate, in the treatment of cerebral palsy. A double‐blind trial, comparing the effect of carisoprodol, amylobarbitone and an inert placebo, was carried out on 17 children who were making little progress with a full programme of conventional therapy. The difficulties of conducting such a trial and of interpreting the results are discussed. Within the limits of this trial, no evidence of any beneficial effect attributable to carisoprodol was obtained.
