SUMMARY Apparatus is described for accurately measuring the rate of fall of wind‐dispersed seeds over known distances. The detection system consists of photo‐electric beams at the open ends of a Perspex tube. The apparatus was connected to an automatic timing counter which was switched on by the released seed breaking the uppermost photo‐electric beam, and switched off as the seed passed through the lower beam. A simplified circuit diagram of the detection system is given.
