S ummary A scanning photoelectric method has been devised which is capable of measuring up to 680 cm 2 of leaf tissue in 10 seconds. Its principle of operation is based on the number of dark pulses generated by a screw‐driven bank of photocells which is electronically scanned as it moves beneath an illuminated Perspex platform on which the leaves to be measured are arranged.
