S ummary .1 Free iodine is incapable of producing metamorphosis in Axolotls when administered alone, but, if thyroid extract is given as well, it is utilized producing greatly accelerated transformation. The rate of metamorphosis induced by thyroid and iodine is much greater and the period before completion shorter than that produced by thyroid alone, when the same dose is given. 2 The inetamorphic principle of the Anterior Pituitary does not utilize or combine with iodine to produce greater acceleration of metamorphosis. 3 The posterior lobe pituitary exerts an inhibitory influence on inetamorphic changes induced by thyroid and iodine.
