At a time when more emphasis is being placed on the value of organizational collaboration, the article argues that the International Social Security Association should assume a more active and vocal position in promoting a central role for large‐scale, compulsory social security within emerging international‐organization‐defined “social protection” strategies and policy sets. Outlining proposals for achieving this goal, the article draws attention to likely internal and external obstacles in its path.
