A new species of Phaius (Orchidaceae), Phaius hekouensis Tsukaya, M. Nakajima & S. K. Wu, from Ma Chang Village, Kunming, China is described and illustrated. Phaius hekouensis is easily distinguishable from other members of the genus Phaius , having a combination of characteristics such as a tall erect, stem with elongated internodes, and large, yellow flowers with a lip having a short spur at the base and free from the column. The original habitat was near the border between China and Vietnam, suggesting high species biodiversity in this border region.
