This issue coincides with a significant milestone in the life of the journal: the 20th anniversary of the journal. I launched the journal in 1986 as a peer-reviewed quarterly research journal under the title Microcomputers in Civil Engineering. In 1993, the journal became a bimonthly publication. In March 1995, the journal was subtitled Journal of Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering. In January 1998, the current title of Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering was adopted. The primary focus of the journal remains innovative computational modeling with the goal of encouraging exploration of new computing frontiers and paradigms and information technologies. We continue to publish five different types of articles: (a) major original contribution, (b) short original contribution, (c) state-of-the-art review article, (d) innovative application of computers in education, and (e) novel and significant industrial application. Creativity and originality are the primary criteria for publication. A feature of the journal is the publication of special and focus/theme issues.
