In the past years compromises for raster scan procedures laid stress on high speed for pixel generation as speed was the main bottleneck. Now, since pixel generation is sufficiently fast for many applications, the quality of the results becomes more and more important. I t is frequently stated that high resolution screens will solve all quality problems, but this does not take into account the fact that conventional raster scan procedures usually neglect the very basic rules of sampling theory. The well established knowledge in the field of sampling and restoring pictures [ I ] shows us that good results require filtering. Subsequently, a raster scan conversion procedure including filtering is presented and typical problems are described. The usefulness of the presented procedure has limitations which will be discussed.
