Dear Editor,\udAlthough perhaps intended to provoke rather than persuade, we shall take Jason McCready's (Nursing Philosophy 11, pp. 191–203), arguments for subsuming nursing knowledge development under Jamesian pragmatism at face value. In the restricted confines of a letter, we can only note what we think are the most important problems which inhabit pragmatism itself, some of which he acknowledges and casts aside, and raise some concern about his project as a whole
