This paper presents evidence on the adoptions by local building commissions of four standards produced by industry groups. It is shown that at least three of the four provisions induce anticipatable income redistributions. It is suggested that these transfers are largely the result of quasi‐rents being earned in the post‐building code market adjustment period.
