In this paper, a model using the energy approach was established to investigate the formation of fish‐eye shape in the gigacycle fatigue failure. The model was used to predict the size of the fish‐eye formed by a given subsurface inclusion. The predicted results were comparable with the fractography of SNCM439 steel and other experimental results of gigacycle fatigue available in the literature. The current model can capture the fish‐eye shape and can be used to predict the life of crack initiation during fatigue failure.
