Using mammotropic tumor (MtT/W5) bearing rats as hyperprolactinemia rats, we showed that circulating high prolactin levels caused adrenal hyperplasia. Also, we could clearly demonstrate a positive correlation between the serum levels of prolactin and the adrenal gland weights. The findings suggest that prolactin acts to stimulate primary adrenal hyperplasia.
