Abstract A series of 524 continuing pregnancies complicated by bleeding prior to the 16th week of gestation was analysed. In 93%, the length of gestation was at least 38 weeks. The incidence of congenital anomalies in the threatened abortion group was 1.9% as against 0.9% in the control group (p < 0.05). The only increase in obstetrical complication of any significance was that of placenta praevia — 1.3% as against 0.5% (p < 0.02).
