Animal Histoplasmosis in Brazil: * Isolation of Histoplasma capsulatum from a Dog on the Northern Coast of São Paulo: Tier‐Histoplasmose in Brasilien Isolation von Histoplasma capsulatum von einem Hund an der Nordküste von São Paulo

Summary: A revision of reported cases of animal histoplasmosis in Brazil was summarized. The peribronchial lymph nodes of 110 dogs from two different regions of the State of São Paulo (Brazil) were cultured to detect Histoplasma capsulatum infections. The fungus was recovered from one dog of the same region where human epidemics have been reported. These findings and the earlier isolation of the organism from feaces of bats indicate that there is a focal area for H. capsulatum on the Northern Coast of São Paulo. Zusammenfassung: Es wird eine Übersicht über Fälle von Histoplasmose bei Tieren in Brasilien gegeben. Peribronichales Lymphdrüsengewebe von 110 Hunden aus zwei verschiedenen Regionen im Staat Sao Paulo (Brasilien) wurde mykologisch‐kulturell untersucht um Infektionen mit Histoplasma capsulatum zu entdecken. Dieser Pilz wurde von einem Hund isoliert, der aus einer Region stammte, in der auch menschliche endemische Fälle festgestellt worden waren. Dieser Fall und frühere Isolierungen aus Faeces von Fledermausen zeigen, daß an der nördlichen Küste von Sao Paulo eine Region besteht, die als Quelle für Infektionen mit H. capsulatum gelten muß.
