Further Experiences with Ketoconazole in the Treatment of Onychomycosis

Summary: In an open trial ketoconazole, a new orally active antimycotic, was evaluated in 41 patients with onychomycosis of one or more finger and/or toenails. One tablet containing 200 mg ketoconazole was given daily. In 10 patients this dosage needed to be increased. Eightynine percent of the patients were mycologically cured after a median 39‐week treatment. In total there were 161 mycotic nails and 96% of the affected nails were cured. No adverse reactions were noted. Zusammenfassung: In einer offenen Studie wurde Ketoconazol, ein neues, oral wirk‐sames Antimykotikum an 41 Patienten geprüft, die an einer Onychomykose eines oder mehrere Fingernägel bzw. Fußnägel litten. Täglich wurde eine Tablette zu 200 mg verabreicht. Bei 10 Patienten war es nötig, diese Dosis zu erhöhen, 89% der Patienten waren nach einem Zeitmedian von 39 Wochen mykologisch ausgeheilt. Insgesamt wurden 161 mykotische Nägel behandelt, von denen 96% geheilt werden konnten. Unerwünschte Wirkungen des Präparates wurden nicht beobachtet.
