At the occasion of the 20th anniversary of its foundation, the German Speaking Mycological Society created the Schönlein Medallion as an award for outstanding merits in Medical Mycology. On 1st May, 1981, at the 16th scientific meeting of the society in Erlangen near Nürnberg, the Schönlein Medallion was awarded for the first time to Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. Hans Götz who founded the society in 1961. Professor Dr. O.P. Hornstein, Head of the Department of Dermatology, University of Erlangen‐Nürnberg, gave the address in honour of Professor Götz which is published on the following pages. Die Deutschsprachige Mykologische Gesellschaft hat aus Anlaß ihres 20‐jährigen Bestehens eine Plakette als Auszeichnung für hervorragende Verdienste um die medizinische Mykologie gestiftet. Die Schönlein‐Plakette wurde erstmals am 1, Mai 1981 auf der 16. Wissenschaftlichen Tagung der Deutschsprachigen Mykologischen Gesellschaft in Erlangen verliehen. Die auf den folgenden Seiten wiedergegebene Laudatio hielt Prof. Dr. O.P. Hornstein, Direktor der Dermatologischen Universitätsklinik und Poliklinik in Erlangen.
