Summary A contribution to the differentiation between the blue whitefisb (Coregonus lavaretus wartmanni) and the densly rahered whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus macrophthalmus) by biochemical genetic analyses A sample of 86 fish of the Genus Coregonus were analysed by enzyme gel electrophoresis. 6 Loci out of 32 were polymorphic. Blue whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus wartmanni) and densly rahered whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus macrophthalmus) revealed different allele frequencies at the Hex‐locus. Sub‐population structure is further evidenced by a correlation between qhenotypes at the Hex‐locus and the number of gill rahers, but there is no reason for ordering both groups in different species.
