Summary A general report is given of the results from 1950–1961. In this, preference is gnen to the work of the Institute where the author has worked for 25 years. After dealing with new information on the spread and economic importance of wood pests in Germany and the rest of the world, the most important contributions on the biology, ecology and physiology of wood feeding insects are summarized. In a second part, improvements in control and protection usine organic materials and oily wood preservatives, water soluble protectants, hot air and irradiation methods are described. Problems and improvements in preservative application techniques are also described, involving penetration ability and regularity of penetration, rules and regulations concerning commercial wood protection methods, detection of work done and quality inspection. The bibliography contains more than 300 entries.
