Abstract The diversity of Ascocoryne cylichnium, Nectria fuckeliana and Neobulgaria premnophila isolates expressed as variation in their fatty acid and sterol composition was investigated. Despite high within‐species variation, distinct differences in the fatty acid and sterol composition between species were evident.
