The components of the common calcanean tendon were studied by dissection of ten limbs each of eight domestic mammalian species. The tendon of the bovine triceps surae muscle was found to consist of two distinct parts. This led to the suggestion, after examining the topography and trials on patients, to alter the tenotomy procedure (after G ötze , 1932) for the treatment of spastic paresis.
