Summary. A high incidence of cold haemagglutinins with anti‐i specificity was found in serum samples from patients with massive splenomegaly of uncertain cause in the Watut valley of New Guinea. The samples contained increased concentrations of macroglobulin, 16–33% of which represented cold agglutinin activity. Tropical splenomegaly constitutes another condition in which anti‐i appears in association with hyperplasia of reticulo‐endothelial tissue.
