By the use of a new ventilatory system it is possible to avoid some of the difficulties otherwise encountered in respirator treatment of neonates. The ventilatory system, whose supply tube is surrounded by a hot‐air jacket which is supplied with warm air from a thermostatically controlled air warmer (aerotherm), is a combination of a jet valve (B enveniste & P edersen 1968) and a bag‐and‐bottle system, between which a thermostatically controlled humidifier is inserted. It is shown that, by means of the ventilatory system, it is possible to obtain optimum humidification of the inspired air without any formation of condensed water in the supply tube by utilising the working principle previously described by L omholt et al. (1968). The advantages and disadvantages of the ventilatory system are discussed, and a comparison of this system and the respiratory system described by L unding et al. (1968) is made. (1968) beschriebenen Beatmungssystem angestellt.
