The toxicity of combinations of lidocaine and tetracaine was determined in mice by analysis of a three‐by‐three factorial design. Toxicity was found to vary significantly with different dosage levels of each drug. Toxicity of combinations of two drugs cannot be predicted from dose‐response curves in which a single dose level of either drug is used. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Die Toxizitat von Lidocain‐Tetracain‐Kombinationen wurde bei Mäusen mit Hilfe einer auf 3 : 3 Faktoren basierenden Analyse festgestellt. Die Toxizität variierte signifikant in verschiedenen Dosisbereichen beider Mittel. Die Toxizitat von Kombinationen zweier Drogen kann nicht aus DosisWirkungskurven vorhergesagt werden, bei denen jeweils nur Einzeldosis‐Konzentrationen des einen oder anderen Mittels zur Anwendung kamen.
