Induction of embryos in pollen cultures was possible when young buds from plants induced to flower at 15°C were given a cold treatment at 10°C for 15 days. Following selective isolation of embryogenic pollen the cultures raised were given cold treatment at 10°C for 12 or more days. In such cultures the embryos appeared at a frequency of 1.2% of the cultured pollen on mineral‐sucrose medium at pH 6.8.
