Longitudinal splitting and reassembly of core tubes, before core sampling, solves many of the problems of hand‐operated corers. Low‐cost, re‐usable PVC core tubes have successfully been used for obtaining virtually undisturbed cores from unconsolidated sandy sediments in the intertidal and shallow subtidal zones. The entire operation can be carried out by one person.
