In 1978 we reported the results of an analysis of the zigzagging behaviour of male Plodia interpunctella flying up a plume of sex pheromone (Marsh et al. , 1978). Since then we have discovered that, owing to two technical faults, we used an incorrect time base in analysing the videotape records of the moths' tracks. The original tapes have now been re‐analysed and a full revision paper is being prepared which shows that only one important conclusion must be changed. Meanwhile that incorrect conclusion has been cited at least twice (Schöne, 1980, p.236; Murlis & Jones, 1981) so we here summarize the correction to be made.
