Biological samples collected as part of a longitudinal birth cohort study can add a wealth of detailed information on environmental exposures and outcome traits, and the mechanisms by which they occur. Here we advise on methods for collecting, labelling and storing different types of sample so that they can be retrieved for analysis in the future.
