The implementation of nurse prescribing is characterized by political machination, the need to construct an effective case, and deft manoevering within the corridors of power. This paper illustrates the approach taken by the Royal College of Nursing and its key members in policy formulation and influence as this key nursing tool was brought to the attention of government, and achieved passing of the legislation required to make it a reality.
