Summary Correspondence analysis is used for the determination of element localization and element concentration in electron energy–loss imaging. The introduction of a new method for the quantification of element concentration embedded in the protocols of correspondence analysis may be regarded as a useful replacement of the power–law estimation technique, especially in regions of the spectrum where the latter method cannot be used. Conditions for the optimum use of the method are established.
