SYNOPSIS. Here, and in future parts of this paper, an attempt has been made to re‐group genera and species of recent Peneroplidœ and associated forms by a careful study of external ornamentation, form of the aperture, mode of coiling, and other characters, after a large number of specimens had been examined. The origin, phylogeny, and geological history of the group are also outlined. Two new genera and six new species are described. Observations are made on the reproduction and geographical distribution of species in the last part with an outline of the systematics.
