Previous numerical studies on coliform enterobacteria strains enabled differentiation into two categories: faecal and aquatic or telluric enterobacteria. Here is described the theory and programming of a computer identification system devised to identify faecal coliform enterobacteria and newly described aquatic or telluric species.
