S ummary . A temperature gradient incubator heated and cooled by circulating liquids is described which is suitable for incubating micro‐organisms in liquid media and on solid media in roll tubes. The maximum deviation from a linear temperature gradient is 0·35% of the range (0·13°) even when used at temperatures up to 30° above ambient. The temperature of any set of sample wells is uniform to within 0·07° (3·5% of the difference between adjacent rows).
