Two major movements in the USA–transcultural nursing and primary care nursing–are discussed. They are considered to be exciting, challenging and promising developments to advance nursing education and practice. These movements are placing new and heavy responsibilities on nurse educators. The author argues that both transcultural nursing and primary care nursing movements need to be part of local, national and international health education and care systems.
