In the years 1969–1985, the population density of Microtus arvalis in Poland varied depending on the area, the largest populations and the most frequent mass occurrence being noted in the southern part of the country. Mass occurrences of rodents were observed in 1971, 1978, 1981, 1983 and 1984. Differentiation in the occurrence of M. arvalis was caused by the sculpture of the landscape, soil structure and by the length of the growing season.
