The mitotic rate of thyroid follicular cells was assessed by a stathmokinetic method at intervals from 15 min to 24 hr after a single injection of 1 iu/kg of thyrotropin (TSH). the mitotic rate was increased 15 min after TSH and remained elevated for 3 hr. Two further peaks of mitotic activity were present at 9 hr and 24 hr after TSH. Serum TSH concentrations were increased from 5 min to 3 hr with a maximum at 1 hr.
