SUMMARY The gravimetric method used by Strauss & Pochi (1961) to measure sebum excretion rate (SER) was modified by Cunliffe & Shuster (1969) to improve its accuracy and reproducibility. We have confirmed that their modification gives accurate and reproducible results, and a re‐analysis of their data has shown that the SER in males varies slightly from week to week.
