SUMMARY A new clinical presentation of epidermal necrolytic reaction affecting a limited area is reported in 5 Zambian patients. No definite causative factor could be identified in any of these cases. A staphylococcal aetiology is suspected because of the compatible histological features. However, none of the patients had pyogenic skin lesions and staphylococcus was not isolated from the skin lesions.
