Summary.— Immiunofluorescence studies suggest that complement components play a part in bringing about the clinical cbanges in light‐exposed skin of patients with symptomatic and hereditary porpbyria cutanea tarda. Due to photodynamically induced permeability cbanges formed serum elements occur in and around the blood vessel walls of the light‐exposed skin. No indications were found of a primary auto‐immune mecbanism operating in porphyria cutanea tarda.
