Summary A study of deaths coming to the notice of the Home Office from 1978 to 1980 of persons previously notified as addicts, or where controlled drugs appear to play a major role, shows a significant rise in the latter group. This, and the increasing involvement of opioids in these deaths, are consistent with other evidence of an increase in black market supplies from a variety of sources.
