Summary. The history, taxonomy, distribution and cultivation of Paphiopedilum vietnamense Gruss & Perner are given, and the species is illustrated. The almost total predation of the plant in its natural habitat by collectors since it was discovered in 1997, is discussed, and it is now assessed as CR, critically endangered, in the wild.
