The occurrence of the gobiid Austrolethops wardi in seagrass beds at Bone Batang, a small island of the Spermonde Archipelago, south‐west Sulawesi, Indonesia, is reported; the first record of A. wardi in Indonesia. All fish were found to be associated with burrows of the thalassinid shrimp Neaxius acanthus , where they were caught either as single specimens or as pairs. The main diagnostic characters of this rarely found gobiid are presented.
