An orthologue of hadh2 (hydroxyacyl‐coenzyme A dehydrogenase type II) has been isolated from amphioxus. At the amino acid level, hadh2 exhibits high sequence similarity between amphioxus and vertebrates, including zebrafish. Similarities also exist in the developmental expression patterns of amphioxus and zebrafish hadh2 , which may provide information on the molecular mechanisms responsible for some human disease phenotypes caused by hadh2 mutation.
