The administration of papaverine (a hypotensive agent) caused an elevation in plasma angiotensin II concentration in the seawater eel, with a corresponding increase in drinking rate. Captopril completely abolished papaverine‐induced increase in drinking and reduced papaverine‐stimulated plasma angiotensin II concentrations by over 80%.
