This is a memoir of the author's association with the Conference on Peace Research in History (CPRH)—now the Peace History Society—in its early years, touching on what seems most salient about it today. Scholarship in peace history itself has a rich history extending back decades before the founding of CPRH, but that founding was a turning point in the evolution of peace history, giving impetus to a great expansion of work in the field by providing visibility, communication, organization, space, excitement, sense of community, and a forum for open debate on the role of historian in a time of crisis.
