The Hongniu-Hongshan deposit is a newly discovered porphyry-skarn copper deposits in the central part of the Zhongdian area, Shangrala County, Yunnan province, southwestern China. A major aim of this study is to determine the main constraints on the formation of this deposit. The primary focus is on the evolution and source of fluids responsible for both skarn-type and porphyrytype mineralisation at the porphyry–skarn level. By application of geology surveying, detailed petrography and mineralogy study on primary minerals formed in every mineralization stage (such as quartz, garnet, pyroxene, epidote and calcite), fluid inclusion microthermometry and stable isotope study on wellcharacterised samples from both environments, it was possible to demonstrate a predominantly magmatic origin of fluids ascending from a deep source and controlled by changing pressure-temperature conditions along their fluid paths, establish the forming process of the forming process.
